        The Ruger 10/22 is one of the most popular semi automatic .22 rifles ever made.   Their reputation is well deserved, because it's an incredibly reliable rifle IF you clean the magazine when needed.   All you need is a 9/64" allen wrench.   This is a very easy easy job, even if you're not mechanically inclined.   However, if the magazine "flys apart" during dissassembly, this photo will help you reassemble the parts correctly.   This magazine requires no lubrication of any kind.   In fact, if you try to lubricate it, you'll cause yourself problems.

        There are a jillion companies making custom parts for the Ruger 10/22 rifle.   However, Ruger makes (by far) the most reliable magazines.   Remember, the magazine is the key to making this such a reliable rifle.

        I've seen the inside of several different "Brand-X" 10/22 magazines.   Some of them have a protruding edge (see arrow) inside the small steel casting.   If this edge sticks out, it will cause your rounds to bind, and jam against the rotary follower.   This edge needs to be flush with the plastic housing.   It also helps if you polish the pathway through the steel casting.   That keeps fowling from building up.

        During reassembly, the hex nut (on the rear of the magazine) needs to be wound clockwise to increase the spring pressure of the rotary follower.   You should wind it tight enough to provide reliable lift for the last round.
